Built some custom angle type bonding
strips for reattaching the broken body sections. Formed them
over angle iron, rough sanded, cut-to-length
The
bonding pieces worked great - the body stands stiff without the
blocks underneath the rear ...fully supported by the repaired
areas
William making it dooms-day for the
paint on this hood
Then
he attacked the bottom of the hood - all that is left are some
areas that will have to be soda blasted
Focus was on some areas that were needing repair in structural
corners of the body
the
fenders are rough blocked - very smooth now - ready for sealer /
primer and final blocking.
More Paint Stripping
- 11/27-29
William started diligently
stripping paint from the underside of the deck lid ...sanded what
could be, then went to soda blasting the hard tight corners.
C6 Seat Investigation
- 12/7
First
time to ever take a C6 seat apart ...lots of mechanical
components under it.
Now I can see how much of the frame and foam will need to be cut
to make it look correct
More Paint Stripping
- 11/27-29
Mr. Sandman (William) started diligently
stripping paint from the underside of the deckled ...sanded what
could be, then went to soda blasting the hard tight corners.
He did an awesome job on the
underside of the L88 hood, even inside the air cleaner
compartment
Next he started on the
rough 2nd deck lid, which we decided will be used for some
customization tricks - not the good original deck lid
The previous repairs to
the rear deck were sub-par ...so the correct contour has now
been recreated with fiberglass / duraglass
Putting a metal cage on it
- 12/11
It
took some effort to slide the metal cart halo over the body
...William slid them under while I head up that end of the body
Removing the body from the
Wooden Cart
- 12/12
We
pulled the '67 outside and used the engine hoist to lift the
body off the wooden cart - then onto the metal cage
Now we can rotate
the body on the side or upside down - next to power wash the
underside
The sun is setting on
another productive week
Test Fitting the C6 Humps /
Deck Lid
- 12/17
The used C6 Deck
Lid came in and it is in great shape
The deck lid is
wider than the C2 - no surprise - not as flat either - but the
humps will look good on the C2 deck
The C6 deck lid is definitely
different than the C2
Pondering a concealment option for when the top is down.
More Efforts on the C6 Humps
/ Deck Lid
- 12/18
Time
to play wack a hump - cutting the humps out of the C6 deck lid
they
are cut out ...all that is left is the outer shell
separated the skin from the support frame
then cut the humps to be separate for spacing / fitment
they will look great!
we
glassed the outside damaged areas of the old molested C2 deck
lid before leaving
Time to Tackle the Underside
- 12/20
Started the day working on the custom fabricated rain gutter for
the engine compartment
Then we moved on to working on the underside of the body
Years of undercoating and gunk had to be hand scraped
We
got dirty however, lots was accomplished on this awesome weather
December day
trying to decide what to do about either replacing these or
bonding them solid
Starting to look good underneath
we
are definitely dirty after today's accomplishments
More Work on the Deck Lid &
Underside
- 12/21
You
just can't do the job right without taking off the metal seat
belt brackets and cleaning under them - they are open on the
ends and lots of dirt gets behind them
William focused on the bottom of the deck lid
more undesired body conditions were discovered as paint was
removed
We accomplished
a lot more under the body ...between William soda-blasting the
underside of the deck lid and me soda-blasting the underside of
the body, one might have thought it had been snowing
Looking much better after another day working under the body on
a beautiful 79 degree day - in DECEMBER???
it
is Beer-30 as the sun sets
a coyote watched us from a far; behind the shop
lots of planes in the sky
Glassing on the Underside
- 12/23
What do you do when
someone in the past cut off part of the bonding strips - you
make a new one (untrimmed in these pics)
What do you do when you are tired of working on the topside of
the car - you FLIP IT
now it was time to
repair the bottom side - matching the repairs on the top ...plus
a few found during cleaning
William worked on glassing the backside of the deck lid - it
will be slicked out to appear as one piece
More Work on the Underside
- 12/27
Trimed up the fiberglass angle that
will be used to reconstruct the missing bonding strips in front
of the rear wheel openings. These help with the attachment of
the new rear quarter panel to the body
William started sand-blasting the metal today - this included
the bird cage areas along with seat belt mounts, etc.
Lots of sanding on the previous
patches - and applied more on other areas
The sun sets this evening after another very productive day
